Creating Rule Error

Hello!

Can somebody help me with my problem, below is the rule we made for
our study but when i upload the rule in OpenClinica we encounter the error message "OpenClinica: An error has occurred":
Is there something wrong with my rule?

SE_TRAINING.F_TYPE2DIABETE_4135_V40.IG_TYPE2_UNGROUPED_4738.I_TYPE2_DESCRIBES_ABNORMAL0

If Central Nervous is Abnormal; Please specify:

Central Nervous is equal to abnormal and
comments is equal to blank
I_TYPE2_CENTRAL_NERVOUS eq "2" and
I_TYPE2_DESCRIBES_ABNORMAL0 eq ""

Note: I'm using OpenClinica version3.0.3

Thank you in advance and have a nice day.

Best regards,
George

  • Hi George,

Can you try the same on a 3.1.2 build? Do you get an error message in the log files?

    Best, Tom

  • Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately we don't have the version 3.1.2 yet. In your point of view, what do you think the problem of this rule?

    Hello George,
Try removing the quotes from the expression.
    I_TYPE2_CENTRAL_NERVOUS eq 2 and
    I_TYPE2_DESCRIBES_ABNORMAL0 eq ""

I have tried your rule on a test database with OpenClinica 3.1.2 and got no error messages, it loaded perfectly. You can download 3.1.2 as you probably know and I would certainly recommend that you do that. Rules in 3.0 were problematic at times!

I do not think that the double quotes are the problem, those quotes indicates = blank

  • Dear George,

Do you have multiple studies in the OpenClinica Instance, each with its own rules? If so, you could be seeing the issue we have with 3.0.3, where we have to restart Tomcat every time we upload rules for a different study:
    https://mailman.openclinica.com/pipermail/users/2011-March/005182.html

So uploading rules for study A, then B, then A requires 2 restarts.
Rules for Study A, then B, Then B again requires 1 restart (before the first B upload).

We know of no workaround other than to restart Tomcat when we see the error (we considered restarting Tomcat daily). This is adequate as it we mainly see the error on our frequently updated test server. We’re hoping that this will be fixed when we move to a more recent version of OpenClinica than 3.0.3 (https://mailman.openclinica.com/pipermail/users/2011-March/005181.html).

    Yours,

    Michael Bluett
