    Hi Ricardo,

If you use the script from the openclinica-site (https://docs.openclinica.com/3.1/technical-documents/system-administration/backup-and-restore-openclinica#content-title-5156) then you only restore the database you point to with “set oc_db=openclinica”.
You must repeat these steps for every db you want to backup.

If you want to restore a dump created with a script, so with psql, you must restore it with psql. First you must create an empty openclinica database, owned by user clinica and you can do this in pgAdmin.
Then, with Windows and using the command prompt, the restore command this should be something like:

    cd c:\program files\postgresql\8.4\bin
    psql -U postgres openclinica < c:\oc\pg_backups\openclinica_20120831.db
    Hope this helps,

    Gerben Rienk

I use a script, i try to restore from pgadmin and it don’t work, maybe I should do a restore with a bat file too.
The backup file is created with a .db, my os is windows server 2008 rs2.

Other thing this script backup all db from postgresql or openclinica only?

    thanks

    Hi Ricardo,

Can you give some more details:
    - OS of the server you backed up on
    - OS of the server you want to restore to
    - Did you use pgAdmin or commandline?
    - What were the errormessages?

    Thanks,

    Gerben Rienk

    Dear Ricardo,

We simply schedule a task that runs a batch file that runs a db backup (using pg_dump) to a timestamped file location on an external server.

    Michael

I see, how do you do these snapshots? Do you use any specific software?

    thanks

    Dear Ricardo,

The snapshots are taken to a separate server to provide more frequent backups of the database in case of some unrecoverable RAID failure. They’re a little extra that could save some data entry if we need to rely on the full restore + db backup. We’d only lose data since the last db backup or at the nightly backup. We don’t currently have any studies that are solely EDC (or that upload files), and might change our backup plan if we did.

    Michael

Hi Michael, thanks for the info. Just one more question, you take snapshots of the database? Why?

    thanks

    Dear Ricardo,

OpenClinica has a page on backing up here that includes a backup script:
    https://docs.openclinica.com/3.1/technical-documents/system-administration/backup-and-restore-openclinica#content-title-5156
There’s also a page on the Wikibook on the subject:
    http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/OpenClinica_User_Manual/BackupAndRestore

Here at TCTU, we back up the server offsite on a daily basis using commercial software. We also take periodic snapshots of the database during the day.

    Yours,

    Michael

Hi all, I was wondering what safety measures you use with OpenClinica?
Do you use any specific software for backup?
Do you backup the upload files also?
    What measures do you advice?

    Thanks
