exception/unable to login as root with new 3.1.2 installation

Dear Ira,
Your latest configuration sounds good (later versions of Tomcat and PostgreSQL don't work, this is due to be fixed in 3.1.4).
Are you sure you have the datainfo.properties file set up correctly, and did the db deploy correctly? Rather than spend a long time on this issue, I'd be tempted to try redeploying OpenClinica from the war file - to a fresh database and update the datainfo.properties file appropriately.
Yours,
Michael

Subject: [Users] exception/unable to login as root with new 3.1.2 installation
How should I debug what is causing an exception? Should I be asking in the developers forum?
Regards, Ira
32 bit virtual machine, Windows Server Enterprise 2003 R2 SP2, Java SE jdk 6u24, Tomcat 6.0.36, PostgreSQL 8.4.14.1, followed directions from "Open Clinica Reference Guide", section 9.2, Install OpenClinica on Windows Systems". This is a 3.1.2 OpenClinica kit.
I also tried various other versions of JDK including latest, different OS's (XP SP3 32 bit and Windows Server R2 64 bit), and latest PostgreSQL, and latest Tomcat on both 32 bit and 64 virtual machines respectively.
All successfully completed and got to the OpenClinica login window. Trying the last step of verifying the installation using the root username and default password cause an exception:
