Uploading CRF OutOfMemoryError

Hi,  I'm having issues uploading my CRF when I click on the 'Preview CRF Version' button.  When I click on this button, Open Clinica stops responding.  The log shows the following error:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
Exception in thread "http-bio-8080-exec-5" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

I am running OpenClinca 3.4, PostgreSQL 8.4, Tomcat 7 on Windows XP

with MaxPermSize =512m and Maximum memory pool = 1536

  • I've tried restarting the server and adjusting MaxPermSize and Max memory pool multiple back to original settings on install instructions.  I am still experiencing same results.  Could memory of my PC be an issue?

    Any feedback would help.

    Thank you

    Hi Alvin,

-What is the version of Java you are running with OpenClinica?
-How much RAM does your PC have?
-Do you have issues uploading just this one CRF?

Please check out the link below for more information on optimizing OpenClinica for better performance

Check to make sure that you don't have any other instances of Java running. If yes, try to delete them.

    Hi Alvin,

Thanks for the information. Can you please attach a copy of any one CRF and I can try to upload it to an OC 3.4 instance.  This will confirm if this is a CRF issue or a system issue.

Please provide more information on what do you mean by "When I click on the preview button, OpenClinica stops responding.". Does this mean you see a white page? Do you have to restart tomcat to bring the instance back?

    Warm regards,
    Thasbiha

    Hi Thasbiha,

I removed rule designer from my install, and I was able to upload
perfectly. I would still like to be able to use rule designer in the
future. Do you have recommended configurations to run rule designer on
    Windows XP?

    Thank you,

    Alvin

    Hi Alvin,

I am not sure about the recommended configurations for rule designer
because our customers have mostly used the hosted version of RD. However,
from what I read from the forums, this option will not work for you since
your OpenClinica instance is not publicly accessible. Is this correct?

    Thanks,
    Thasbiha

    Hi Thasbiha,

As of right now our server is not publicly accessible, but it will be in
the future. Is my out of memory error due to this reason?

No, out of memory has nothing to do with your URL being publicly accessible
    or not.

    Thanks,
    Thasbiha

What are the hardware requirements of the Enterprise edition of OpenClinica?
Does it include data server hosting and public access?
    How much does it cost?

    Thanks,

    Alvin
