  • Hi Adel,

    A couple of questions:
    1. In the XML for the configuration file (OpenClinica.xml) does the setup for the security Realm have the correct database URL, username and password for your system?
    2. Are there any error log messages that generate either when you start up the application, or when you try to log in (they should be in logs/catalina.out)?

Let us know what you find, and we can try to help.

    Thanks,
    Tom

I checked the openClinica.xml (…/catalina/localhost/) I’ve changed connectionName, and connectionPassword (could not find instructions about this in the installation file)

As per the Catalina.log, there are not startup errors
The following is the Catalina start up and the error generated when I try to run Openclinica. Any help is appreciated

Can you run OpenClinica if you don't change the connectionName and connectionPassword? If you just use the default username and password (clinica/clinica), did you get any problem?

    Thanks,

    hi all,
I'm in the process of installing Open clinica on a local maching and I hav reached a point of CONFIGURING TOMCAT AND THE WEB APPLICATION.I have done all this procedure below:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
¨ Open the “Configure Tomcat” application by going to “Start -> Apache Tomcat 6.0 -> Configure Tomcat”
¨ Now click on the “Java” tab
¨ Put “1280” into the “Maximum memory pool” section
¨ Now add “-XX:MaxPermSize=180m” on a new line in the JAVA Options text entry on the “Java” tab.
¨ Once done it should look like the screenshot below.

¨ When all settings have been entered and it looks like the screenshot above click “Apply”.
¨ Tomcat is now configured; next we will deploy and configure OpenClinica.
¨ We have already copied the OpenClinica.war into the tomcat webapps directory so to deploy it all we have to do is start tomcat.
¨ To start tomcat click on the “General” tab, once on the tab click on “Start”
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now when i click start, the tomcat starts and stops abruptly and does not continue. can someone help me know where possibly the problem may be??
    kind regards

  • Hi Seth,
This can happen when your paths to Java are not set. Do you have JAVA_HOME set as a variable in your system? Is Java visible in your classpath?

    Hi Seth,
From the description you have given its not very easy for someone to understand what might be the cause of the problem. What is the RAM on your machine because if you have less RAM and try allocating 1280 as maximum memory pool then tomcat will not start. Better still, if you could attach tomcat log file then it will be easy to diagnose your case.
    Kind Regards,
    Michael

    Hi Seth,
Looks like Tomcat fails to start because the JVM cannot be created. Since you are installing this on a local machine try allocating less memory say 512 and see if it starts. What is the ram on your local machine? Again do let us know if tomcat fails after you deploy OpenClinica or even before you deploy OpenClinica.
    All the best,
    Michael.
