Development and Production databases

Hi,
How exactly does one go about installng two instances of OC - one for development / testing and the other for production?
Does one install everything twice or just create another DB in postgres?

  • Re: [Users] Development and Production databases Hi Clemens,
To create two instances you do not install everything twice. You take the OpenClinica.war file and rename it what you want your instance to be called ie OpenClinica_testbed.war. Then you deploy that war file in tomcat. You would create a new database and openclinica.data directories. Make sure your OpenClinica.xml and datainfo.properties files are configured correctly.
    Thanks,
    Shaun

    Hi Shaun,
What exactly do you mean by "Make sure your OpenClinica.xml and datainfo.properties files are configured correctly." ?
These files are in the both in sub-directories of ..tomcat\. I do not understand how to configure them such that I can load either one of the database as I need.
Will the url to load OC be the same? (http://192.168.0.1:8080/OpenClinica/MainMenu)

  • Re: [Users] Development and Production databases Hi Clemens,
Well you will have to configure OpenClinica_tesbed.xml (The name is based on the name of the .war file) with a different database name which will be the new one you create, and change the properties directory to point to the OpenClinica_testbed/properties instead of OpenClinica/properties for example. You will have to configure datainfo.properties to point to the new openclinica.data directory for example openclinica_testbed.data. The URL will almost be the same http://192.168.0.1:8080/OpenClinica_testbed the OpenClinica_testbed comes from whatever you name the .war file.
    Thanks,
    Shaun
