Data Specialist Role (re-asked)

I haven't receive any response on this question. Can anyone answer this?

I'm having some confusion about the "Data Specialist" role.

My questions are:
What is this role and who should have it?
Why is a data specialist logged in as an 'investigator'?
Why is it sometimes not listed and instead have 'investigator' listed after clicking the 'Set Role' button next to user (Study level, not site)
Thanks,
Mike

I believe there is some confusion regarding the names of the roles in beta 2. As I understand it (maybe someone from Akaza can clarify) there are some changes in beta 2 that are only partially implemented and it is these that are causing confusion. It should be resolved before the production release.

  • Hi Michael,
The Data Specialist role and the Investigator role have the exact same privileges, the only difference is the Data Specialist is assigned to a study and has acccess to all of the sites underneath a study, and the Investigator is assigned to one site within a Study.
If you are seeing the name of the role as Investigator when you are setting the role for a study level user, this would be a bug. If you continue assigning the role and you look at the user account later, does it still say Investigator or does it say Data Specialist.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Thanks for the response Paul. I'm using 2.5.7 and assigning 'Data Specialist' at the study level. When I login as that user their role is 'investigator'. When I change to one of the sites their role is still 'investigator'. It seems that beyond just specifying 'Data Specialist' at user creation this is never seen again. Will this cause any issues?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Hi Michael,
No, this will not cause any issues. Both of those roles have the exact same privileges in terms of OpenClinica, the name is supposed to reflect whether the user is at the study or site level. It will not cause any harm if the user role name is not being displayed correctly, but we will correct it in 3.0.
    Thanks,
    Paul
