Re: How to add a VAS application to the eCRF

Hello everyone!
In our study CRF there is a question that is aimed to be answered by VAS, Visual Analogue Scale.
On the hard copy CRF the patient is asked to mark a point on a ten centimeters scale, that will be measured by a ruler to get a definite value.
Is there any way to represent this VAS scale on OpenClinica?

An idea that has occurred in our firm is to create a computerized ruler that would measure the distance between the mark (held by the mouse) and the end of the row, and show it on the screen.
That way one could set the sign at the exact location that indicates the distance he asks for.

I think you will find that VAS scales are only validated for use on paper. In any event there is no equivalent in OpenClinica. We give our subjects a printed sheet containing the instructions and the VAS is measured and entered by the coordinators afterwards.

  • Hi Liora,
If you're interested in this feature we spec'd it out for a client a while back. I'd be happy to share this spec with you so you can build it yourself, or we could possibly build if for you as a consulting project. Would anybody else be interested in this feature?

    Thanks,
    Ben

I believe there are several scanning/reading devices, e.g. C-PEN20 that can do this.
