We are involved in very extensive epidemiological research. We have started using Open Clinica for many small studies and plan to expand its use on a bigger scale.
We have 1 CRF1 say fooditemcodes. (It contains 3 items viz food_code , food_description , food_calories). This list is constantly on a rise as we come across new food items relevant to study.
Our second CRF2 is say foodconsumptiondata. This has food consumption data for individual subjects. The 5 items are (subjectid, foodcode, fooddet, foodcal, foodwt).
Our problem: When a particular subject consumes food with foodcode= "A", then we have to make sure that "A" appears in fooditemcodes (CRF1) list by searching and matching. If it matches then it will bring those food_description into itenm: fooddet and food_calories into item: foodcal of CRF2. Then based on foodwt (which is the weight of that food) it will do some computaions.
What we have tried: We were suggested to write a rule comparing food_code with every food code available say A, A1, B------ etc. But it doesn't make any sense as our code list is going to updated constantly. Thats why we thought of creating a separate CRF of food codes and link our food consumption data from CRF1 by linkking food codes in CRF2 and getting the relevant info in CRF1.
Also when data for CRF2 is entered how do repeat the subject id as CRF will not take same subject again and each subject will have several records for each food item it has consumed.
This sort of file look up is extremely needed in our research. Any EFFICIENT solution will be really appreciated.
In a new study ( which is a sequel to old study) we already know the subjectid, sex, date of birth etc. This data is in foxpro format. Is it possible to import that in Open Clinica.? How to do it?
We have a CRF1 tagged to event1. Entry is in progress. Subject id say X is entered
CRF2 is tagged to event2. Entry for subject id X is being made. Now in this CRF2 can we call or atleast display an item from CRF1 for subject X?
