Scholarships for OC14?

There are a lot of people in the OpenClinica community doing some fantastic work, who may benefit from attending OC14, but might find the cost of doing so prohibitive.

What if we were to organize OC14 Scholarships? There are probably a few ways in which this could work, but the basic idea is that an organization could sponsor a scholarship. The sponsoring organization could get many of the promotional benefits of a traditional event sponsorship (logo on conference materials, etc.), but the funds would go directly to enabling someone to attend who wouldn’t otherwise be able to do so.

I’d love to see what people think about this idea. Of course, there are a number of questions that come to mind, such as:

  • Should each scholarship be for a fixed amount. How much?
  • What should be some of the selection criteria for scholarship applicants?

What else should be considered? Your thoughts welcome!

    • The scholarship should be a fixed amount. I would say 5k USD.
    • The selection criteria should be the contribution made by that person to the OC community.
    • A definitive contribution to the code.
