Best way to get Site in a Rule..

So I saw some old (2+ yrs) comments about this that implied you had to add a field to the CRFs to capture the site.. I was hoping this flaw isn't still around. As I have said in some other messages I'm experimenting to see if I can use OC in a future study so I'm trying to get what we already have in our current EDC. Since we have a lab norms/ranges subsystem I need to find a way to do this in OC. . I see in the forums people use Rules for this. I saw on the Demo OC site some lab range rules and they referenced a site id that is captured in a CRF.. I really have an issue with asking the user to capture data that is already in the system.. just feels wrong. . So is there a better way to get the site id in a rule or is this a show stopper for me?

thanks!
Gary

    Gary,

If I am understanding this correctly, you have different lab ranges at different sites. You could create one CRF for each site that is different and define specific rules with specific ranges for each of these CRFs. Then you would only let the site see the lab CRF applicable to their site.

    Hope this makes sense,

Thanks Mihai.. Every site has the same LAB CRF.. the only difference is the ranges (and this is not always the case.. some studies we do use a central lab so its not needed..) But even with one site/lab we'd still need to access Subject related data like Age and GEnder. I assume this is also not accessible? I really don't want to redo our processes and procedures to work around issues in OpenClinica.. the goal of my prototype was to see how we could replace our old system with OC.. I'm really seeing there are just far too many show stoppers for me to do that.. Just glad I'm seeing that now before I presented it as an option..

It is true that if you want to work with these values they have to be part of CRF. But there are solutions how to automatically pre-fill your CRF. Check out these Gerben posts.

From values that are part of CRF header:

Or using RESTfull URLs that gives you complete access to studySubject data (even site information)

Thanks.. Since I will probably always have gender, age and site in the Demographics CRF I'll just make sure to always name them the same way and use them in my logic for the rules.. thanks!
