  There are a few options to count the number of "Yes" responses, depending on how your CRF is set up.  

  
  

  If you have a Response_Options_Text of "Yes" or "No" with the corresponding Response_Values of 1 and 0, you can simply sum the items. The sum function includes the Item Names of all items that should be counted, separated by commas:

  
  

  sum(ITEM_NAME1, ITEM_NAME2, ITEM_NAME3, ...)

  
  

  In some cases, you may have the Response_Options_Text of "Yes" or "No" but the corresponding Response_Values of "Y" and "N". The sum function would not work alone, but you could try using it along with the decode function. To do so, include each Item in a decode function inside of a sum function:

  
  

  sum(decode(ITEM_NAME1, Y, 1, 0), decode(ITEM_NAME2,Y,1,0).....)

  
  

  The decode function will take Item_Name1, and if the Response_Value is Y, assign a value of 1. Otherwise, if the Response_Value is not Y, it will assign a value of 0. 

  
  

  In each case, you can put the sum() or decode() function in the Response_Values_or_Calculations column of your CRF.
